You might rub the stain even more into the fabric, which is the most certain way to permanent discolouration. No matter which cleaning liquid you use, keep in mind that only blotting washes the stain away when you are applying pressure to the spot, which leads to the liquid being absorbed into the sponge or cloth. Another way to ensure that the carpet fibre is protected is to pay attention to which direction you blot in. Blotting inwards from the outside makes sure that the stain does not spread further.
